Websites are locking out AI agents: Yelp charges, Delta and JPMorgan block outright
gaganghotra_ · x · 2026-10-18
The Verge reports that while OpenAI, Meta and Google push autonomous agents to book dinners, clean inboxes and shop, major sites are pushing back. Users of Meta's Muse, xAI's Grok, OpenAI's Dots and Instinct report agents being blocked on top websites.
Confirmed restrictions:
- Yelp only allows agents that pay for its data licensing program
- Delta Air Lines blocks agents from booking tickets for users
- JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab block agent account access over security concerns
- Cars.com and Amtrak, previously accessible, appear to have quietly started blocking agents
Context: Amazon already banned Perplexity's agentic shopping feature and sued last year, raising legal and practical questions about whether the open web will accept agents at all.
