Interconnect boom may make DFB lasers as cheap as LEDs, says analyst thread
AnalysisOp · x · 2026-10-18
A thread argues the best outcome of this interconnect boom-bust wave could be DFB lasers getting as cheap as LEDs. Rough numbers: DFB lasers (incl. EMLs) ship 30 MW/year (sub-billion units) at 10 mW per dollar, vs LEDs at 100 mW per dollar and 30 GW/year in trillions of units. The author sees DFB on a similar cost-decline path as interconnect demand explodes.
