Bittensor expands subnet capacity to 2,500 miners, opening autonomous AI agent participation
bittingthembits · x · 2026-10-17
Bittensor's Null Consensus update expands subnet capacity from 256 to 2,500 participants and introduces PoW registration as an alternative to Yuma Consensus.
Under the default mechanism, registering a miner requires burning dynamically priced TAO, which gets expensive on competitive subnets. PoW registration instead lets miners join by solving a computational challenge, removing the capital gate. This targets capital-light participants — pure compute nodes and AI agents in particular — enabling an agent to spin up, register itself and compete for emissions using only hardware it already has.
