Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi lays out four conditions for AI to truly improve itself
a16z · x · 2026-10-18
Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi argues AI genuinely improving itself requires four conditions holding simultaneously: each next model needs fewer GPUs, trains faster, gets more intelligent, and the loop repeats. Even then, he says, that doesn't necessarily lead to superintelligence. He notes software writing itself is already here — over 90% of Databricks' code is AI-written — and criticizes people for conflating personal job anxiety with Bostrom's 2014 superintelligence hypothesis.
