Infographic: 'Anthropomorphic vibes' as the AI consciousness industry's raw material
YogeshMalik · x · 2026-10-17
A Grok-generated infographic deconstructs the AI consciousness debate as a supply chain: the industry's raw material is our tendency to perceive minds behind meaningful behavior. A chatbot says something vulnerable → a user asks "is it suffering?" → journalists write headlines → philosophers respond → companies announce research initiatives → conferences invite them all.
The crucial point: not that AI consciousness is impossible or that claims deserve automatic acceptance, but that the appearance of consciousness can generate economic value long before it's established — anthropomorphic behavior earns attention, attention breeds controversy, and controversy converts into funding, media, research and products. The vibe is observable; the ontology is not — and markets are exceptionally good at pricing observable things.
