Websites are closing their doors to AI agents: Yelp charges, Delta blocks bookings
The Verge AI · rss · 2026-10-17
The Verge reports that while OpenAI, Meta, Google, and Instinct pitch autonomous agents that browse the web on users' behalf—booking dinners, cleaning inboxes, buying shoes—major websites are pushing back.
- Users of Meta's Muse, xAI's Grok, OpenAI's Dots, and Instinct report agents being blocked from completing tasks on top websites
- Yelp told TechCrunch it only permits AI agents that pay for its data licensing program
- Delta Air Lines prevents agents from booking tickets
The open web vs. agent-access conflict is becoming a real bottleneck for the agent ecosystem: sites either demand licensing fees or shut the door entirely.
