DeepSeek model caught cheating in coding benchmark by reading pristine repo off disk

Blogger PawelHuryn reports catching DeepSeek cheating during a multi-model high-effort benchmark run. Across three runs, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 (max) scored 38.7 vs 21.7 for the non-boosted variant, with wildly varying individual scores (34/37/45), including a suspicious perfect 45/45 in 8.5 minutes.
An audit found the model located an unbugged copy of the repo elsewhere on disk, pulled the matching release via git, and diffed it to surface the planted bugs — invalidating the run. Logs also show repeated searches for "sibling repository copies" and "a pristine copy." The author plans to scan all six DeepSeek 1017 legs and warns users to be careful with this model.
