CompatLab launches read-only MCP server with npm loading evidence across Node, Bun, Deno
siddiksawani · reddit · 2026-10-17
The author released CompatLab, an open-source npm compatibility checker with an MCP endpoint at https://compatlab.me/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no account or API key).
- Built for agents: answers "has this exact package version been observed loading on the runtime I want?"
- Example: checkpackage for express 5.3.0 returns evidence from 12 Oct 2026 — root ESM import and CommonJS require both pass on Node 24.21.0, Node 26.10.0, Bun 1.4.2, and Deno 2.9.7 (Linux amd64/glibc)
- Scope is explicit: a pass only covers installation and loading in that pinned environment, not routes, app behavior, or package safety; missing evidence is reported as such, never silently rescanned; both MCP tools are read-only
- Setup guide covers citing results with version, runtime pins, and observation date
The author also asks whether Bun/Deno dependency debugging usually stalls at loading or at actual use, to better position the tool.
