steipete · x · 2026-10-17
OpenClaw announced the completion of a broad security audit by Trail of Bits through OpenAI's Patch the Planet initiative, publishing full results.
Findings
- 27 private repository advisories plus 3 standalone hardening PRs
- 24 severity-rated vulnerability reports: 0 Critical, 2 High, 16 Medium, 6 Low; 23 confirmed as real vulnerabilities
- 3 additional defense-in-depth findings that didn't cross documented trust boundaries
- Every actionable issue repaired; all 3 hardening PRs merged
Method
Patch the Planet pairs AI-assisted security research with human review: Trail of Bits used Codex-assisted workflows to find and fix issues, manually validating findings before submission. OpenClaw reviewed each report against its trust model and release history, with coordinated disclosure via private GitHub Security Advisories.
