The Information reports OpenAI is negotiating with a new startup led by Bill Peebles—former Sora research lead and first author of the DiT paper—to deeply reuse the discontinued Sora for film-production tools. Peebles left OpenAI in April as the company shut down the Sora app amid a strategic pivot toward enterprise and coding products.
His co-founders include DreamWorks co-founder and ex-Disney studio chief Jeffrey Katzenberg and former Dropbox CFO Sujay Jaswa. The deal could involve fine-tuning Sora and building products around it; whether they get weight access is unclear, and OpenAI may invest or take equity.
Other Sora leads have scattered: Tim Brooks now leads media generation at Meta Superintelligence Labs, while Aditya Ramesh's world-simulation effort evolved into OpenAI Robotics.
