MBZUAI ships ChemLab-Assets: 198 simulation-ready chemistry instruments

MBZUAI released ChemLab-Assets (Release 1.2, Oct 2026), an open dataset of 198 simulation-ready chemistry lab instruments based on a survey of 200 instruments used in university teaching and research.
Each asset ships with:
- Geometry: GLB for viewing, URDF with collision proxies, per-part OBJ meshes, Blender source;
- A behavior contract (asset.contract.json): components, joints, state slots with units and visibility, callable capabilities with JSON-Schema args and declared errors — specifying what a policy may observe vs. hidden ground truth kept for evaluation (e.g., a fume-hood sash travels 673mm and stops at 457mm; moving a balance's draft-shield restarts its stability check);
- Executable behavior models with joints driven from runtime state, panel buttons in-scene reaching the runtime.
All 198 instruments are converted to USD and stepped in NVIDIA Isaac Lab via the Matterix framework. Assets are rebuilt from public brochures/manuals of real commercial models — not manufacturer CAD, not calibrated against physical units. Goal: let lab agents operate instruments, not merely look at them.
