CoT isn't faithful reasoning: researchers push latent reasoning plus verifiable intermediate plans
AlexTensor · x · 2026-10-17
Responding to Ethan Mollick on CoT's collapsing value in the agentic era, @bendee983 argues CoT tokens are not faithful representations of models' inner reasoning; a robust solution needs latent-space reasoning combined with interpretable, controllable intermediate representations (e.g. graph-structured action plans) with per-step verifiable goals. Mollick: steering AI now requires requesting interim outputs and tests.
