Large gap between top 4 labs and open models, says analyst: "it's grim"

teortaxesTex argues it's hard to see an open model reaching Astra-tier anytime soon — even though Astra itself is deeply flawed (he claims V4.1 Flash is sometimes better at game design), and Astra sits a tier or two below the internal frontier. Aggregating the best public models per lab, he sees a very large gap between the top 4 labs and everyone else, with xAI theoretically joining the top 5 soon. Verdict: "it's grim" for open models.
