Open-source Sol plays games frame-by-frame, beating LLM agent latency with 8 parallel requests
wzenus · x · 2026-10-17
- Sol is an open-source project where an LLM plays games frame-by-frame without code-as-a-policy.
- The core problem is latency: the environment keeps changing while the model processes frames, so actions may be stale on arrival. Most setups pause the game or predict a few actions ahead.
- Sol's fix: run up to 8 model requests in parallel, letting Sol keep watching new frames and choosing actions while earlier decisions are still in flight.
- Latency modeling: during development, cheaper inference simulates the target API's delay (only the delay itself), and Sol is given latency mean, std, P90 and P95 so it can plan from stale frames for where things will be.
- The reposter adds: if the agent learns a world model early, it could roll forward from stale frames and act on predicted states.
