GPT-6 Astra revives server-shut-down Star Trek Legends with a 30-minute offline patch
GiddyPeak · reddit · 2026-10-17
A Reddit user's Steam copy of Star Trek Legends became unplayable after the official servers shut down, with no refund available. Uploading a few DLLs, logs, and asset files to GPT-6 Astra, the model found the game already contained local gameplay, mission data, and save systems—online requests were just blocking startup.
It shipped the patch in two rounds: the first got to the main menu, but a connection error (the game phoning its online chat service) remained; the second disabled that request entirely. The model then packaged everything into a Windows EXE with install/restore buttons, version checks, backups, and source code.
The whole fix took roughly 30 minutes of back-and-forth, and the user has since played multiple missions with working saves—a neat showcase of AI-assisted game preservation.
