Codex App bug: DOT tasks on Windows lose SystemDrive, browser sandbox fails
one-khz · ghdev · 2026-10-16
Issue #54477 on openai/codex: after updating, a fresh task created via "Your dot" on a connected Windows machine fails at its first browser call with "MXC requires nonempty Unicode host SystemDrive," crashing the Node REPL kernel.
- A direct local chat with restricted workspace-write permissions on the same machine (tested after full restart) initializes the browser fine and reads the page title — the failure is specific to the DOT route
- The host's SystemDrive is actually set; new diagnostics report it unavailable at MXC sandbox preparation
- Reproducible: create a fresh DOT task, keep default permissions, ask the browser tool to open example.com and report its title
A concrete Windows sandbox environment-variable bug affecting users relying on DOT remote tasks.
