VM filesystem sharing still painful: virtiofs costs too much with live migration
davidcrawshaw · x · 2026-10-17
In a thread with @zeeg and @thdxr, davidcrawshaw explains they cluster VMs on the same host (which is why live migration matters to them) to get more high-performance options, but virtiofs—the obvious choice—still carries heavy performance costs and is fiddly to combine with live migration. @zeeg notes his case is read-only but can't be static: readers and writer are always the same.
