MicroVM shared-fs prototyping: NFS cuts throughput in half, IOPS to 20%
zeeg · x · 2026-10-17
Developer thread on shared filesystems for microVMs: davidcrawshaw reports NFS prototype costs are severe — one CPU core lost, more than half of throughput gone, IOPS down to 20%. Their custom variant performs better but conflicts with live migration. zeeg notes a shared filesystem really requires clustering designed in from the start, not bolted on later.
