Paying user slams GPT-6 Sol in Chat: pretty colored boxes, but thinking feels nerfed
Defiant-Truck3 · reddit · 2026-10-17
A paying ChatGPT user's detailed Reddit complaint about GPT-6 Sol in Chat:
- GPT-5.5/5.6 were genuinely useful work models — dump context, let them reason, summarize the mess. Sol feels like OpenAI keeps Chat "unlimited" by making it barely useful, decorating output with colors, annotations and APPROVED/DONE labels.
- Even with Thinking enabled, the model often locks onto an instant first take and follows it the whole way; if the first assumption is wrong, you get contradictions and must re-check from scratch.
- 5.6 used to spend 7–10 minutes inspecting a zip; now it rarely goes past 3 minutes.
- The author already pays for Codex for heavy lifting and just doesn't want Chat to become a colorful front-end that can't be trusted. Trigger for the post: hitting the Codex/Work rate limit yet again.
