Cursor founder: RW multi-attach volumes for agent sandboxes are the priciest thing on public clouds

thdxr · x · 2026-10-17

Cursor co-founder thdxr describes his requirement: N sandboxes whose disks can be mounted on at least 32 other sandboxes, with mount points unknown before startup and variable over the sandbox lifecycle — effectively a parent sandbox plus a variable number of children. The root need is a volume attachable to multiple hosts read-write simultaneously, which he calls "the most expensive thing on the planet" given how public clouds are architected. Sandbox author zeeg replies it's technically not hard but can't be bolted on later since it needs clustering at minimum; an NFS shared filesystem over disk mounts would suck but work.
