Google DevRel's Gerard Sans: there's no intelligence in AI, it's just software
gerardsans · x · 2026-10-17
Google Developer Relations engineer Gerard Sans argued on X that there is no "intelligence" in AI: it retrieves information from training data, which is useful if the data is correct — but you wouldn't call a web search or a book "intelligent" for helping you find answers. He likens AI to a calculator that doesn't "know" multiplication and a wheel that doesn't "know" how to spin, urging people to use software-compatible terms instead of projecting human traits.
