FrankenSim treats instruments as data: physics modules synthesize browser-playable sounds
doodlestein · x · 2026-10-17
The FrankenSim developer clarifies that simulated instruments are a byproduct of a larger goal — physics simulation across domains. His hill-climbable goal: spectrograms indistinguishable from well-recorded real instruments. The spec shows the organizing idea: "an instrument is data" — each one composes generic reusable physics modules (structural acoustics, aero-acoustics, biomechanics) covering winds, brass, strings, voice, and non-Western instruments like duduk and pan pipes, rendered offline then played live in the browser.
