Claude designs quantum circuits better than published ones — up to 10x improvements
Anthropic Research · rss · 2026-10-16
Anthropic reports that Claude, working in a closed loop with plain-language specs and an automated evaluator scoring qubit×gate cost, discovered novel quantum circuit designs beating the best published ones across 8 computational primitives — some by an order of magnitude. Improvements came from new structural and mathematical insights, e.g. making the costliest step of a leading quantum optimization algorithm 12x cheaper. Led by Andi Gu with Harvard and QuEra collaborators; could bring practical quantum computers sooner.
