Huntley: developers displaced by AI 'failed a curiosity test'
rseroter · x · 2026-10-17
Geoffrey Huntley joined the State of Agentic Coding podcast (ep. 11) with Armin Ronacher and Ben Vinegar for 90 minutes on the curiosity test, DHH coming around, durable agents, a Lisp you program by talking to it, and why the labs can't afford to fail.
His central claim: developers are failing a curiosity test—if AI displaces you as a software developer, it's self-inflicted, because you weren't curious during rapid transformation. He also revisits his Ralph loops research: Cursor initially dismissed it, implemented it nine months later, then Anthropic and OpenAI followed; Dex estimated running the loop overnight at roughly $10.42/hour of built output.
