UHP: a new open protocol to run Codex, Claude Code, Hermes under one agent interface
Roger_M_Taylor · x · 2026-10-16
Following MCP, A2A and AG-UI, a new open standard called the Unified Harness Protocol (UHP) targets agent harnesses, with HarnessRouter as its open-source, Apache-2.0 server implementation (3k GitHub stars). Products send a task plus harnessid to HarnessRouter, which routes to any configured runtime — Codex, Claude Code, Hermes, PI, DSH — and streams progress and artifacts back. Three core components handle it: Gateway (Responses API, harness config, your model keys), Runner (isolated workspaces, one event stream, turn checkpoints), and built-in tools (MCP servers, browser, database, GitHub, media). The result: fully interchangeable agent infrastructure with your keys on your own infrastructure.
