Hesai's Kosmo scanner enters Pixar's RenderMan pipeline, outputs film-grade 3DGS in minutes

Quantum Bit reports that Pixar's official RenderMan tutorial credits Chinese lidar maker Hesai: its Kosmo 3D scanning system now feeds Pixar's 3D Gaussian Splatting workflow, capturing the iconic Pixar Lamp scene in 10–20 minutes with film-grade fidelity. KosmoOne fuses lidar, 8K imaging, 1-inch CMOS and IMU with microsecond sync and factory-calibrated extrinsics, while the cloud KSC pipeline uses lidar depth to constrain 3DGS optimization, jointly outputting 3DGS, mesh and depth. Beyond film and gaming, Hesai positions Kosmo as real-world data infrastructure for embodied AI: robot training data with accurate physics and spatial relations, priced potentially via tokens rather than hardware. Game Science used Hesai lidar for Black Myth: Wukong's architecture scans. CEO Li Yifan envisions an Apple-like hardware-plus-platform-data ecosystem.
