Hybrid Reasoning Agents: hidden internal reasoning cuts tokens in half while scoring ~10% higher
R_Duncan · reddit · 2026-10-16
A new paper from Stanford, Together AI, UIUC, and Meta introduces Hybrid Reasoning Agents: models reason mostly in a hidden internal space (faster and cheaper) and emit normal text only when calling tools or producing the final answer.
Across math, science, and medicine benchmarks they score roughly 10% higher than regular models while using half the tokens, running twice as fast, at much lower cost. Paper: arXiv:2610.18861.
