Data brokers pay $100K–$2M for SaaS datasets that may train their own replacements
FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-10-16
Data brokers are acquiring SaaS companies' datasets for $100,000 to $2 million. SaaS firms facing revenue decline are selling data as a stopgap income source.
The datasets are then resold to AI training companies and frontier labs, which fold the SaaS products' capabilities directly into AI applications. The bitter irony: these SaaS companies may be selling the very training data that will replace them. The accompanying infographic sketches the full loop — labs ingest data, replace dozens of specialized SaaS tools, customers migrate — moving from a world of many tools to a few AI giants with higher lock-in.
