Five-round creative writing showdown: Opus 5.5 and Argon converge on near-identical output, but usage costs diverge sharply
LanceCharger · reddit · 2026-10-16
A creative-writing user ran a controlled five-prompt experiment feeding the same chapter outline, style guide, and character map to Argon High and Opus 5.5 High. Both models mechanically preserved the original outline structure despite instructions to improve it, admitting they're trained to follow user outlines. Through mutual critique, cross-rewrites, and a final synthesis round, the fifth outputs came out almost identical — 'creepy and bizarre,' the author says. The bigger divergence was usage: Argon High ran out of quota by round five, while Opus 5.5 High had used only 41%. The author also notes Argon burned 15% of quota per casual conversation the previous day, concluding the economics bode ill for AI-assisted creativity.
