Ex-Boston Dynamics CSO praises Chinese badminton robot that set 1,452-hit Guinness record

Shaoxing-based Shenzhen Kaidong's badminton robot earned praise from former Boston Dynamics chief strategy officer Marc Theermann and set a Guinness World Record with 1,452 consecutive rally hits against a human.
- Why it's hard: shuttlecocks are light with unpredictable trajectories; hitting one demands 3D trajectory prediction, synchronized AMR-plus-arm motion, and millisecond-level compute — the same capability stack needed for logistics automation
- Specs: 0.5 ms ball recognition, 30 m/s swing speed, 250+ km/h smashes; fully in-house stack with 100+ patents
- Track record: the team published VaRSM at ICCPS 2022 (first robot playing table tennis, tennis and badminton) and at ICRA 2025 reported 94.5% success vs a ball machine and 90.7% vs a human in continuous rallies
- Company: founded March 2025 with A-share-listed Daqian Ecology and Prof. Xuan Dong (IEEE Fellow, ex-OSU tenured professor); the goal is a reusable general-purpose physical motion platform extending to logistics sorting, home service and industrial tasks
