Codex bug report: Chat fails only under China Standard Time while other UTC+8 zones work
dch-and-Elara · ghdev · 2026-10-16
A bug report (openai/codex #54340) shows the Windows Codex desktop app reproducibly returns "Model not found" in regular Chat when the system time zone is set to China Standard Time, while Singapore, Taipei, and W. Australia Standard Time — all the same UTC+8 offset — work fine.
Key details:
- Reproduced multiple times on Oct 15, 2026 on Windows 11 Pro (build 26200.9457), ChatGPT Pro subscription, app version 26.1013.11914.
- The failure is specific to the China Standard Time zone identifier, not the UTC+8 offset itself, suggesting server-side handling keyed on the tz name.
- Work features remain functional; only regular Chat is affected.
The report raises questions about region-based filtering keyed to the time zone identifier.
