Bug in anthropics/skills docx merge_runs.py drops namespaces, writes invalid XML
BichengWang · ghdev · 2026-10-14
Issue #2018 in anthropics/skills reports that mergeruns.py in the docx skill drops run-local namespace declarations when merging runs. The script exits 0 but writes XML with an unbound prefix, and direct .docx mode overwrites the input archive with the invalid document.
The report includes a full reproduction on Python 3.14.7 / defusedxml 0.7.1 / lxml 6.1.3, schema validation proving the input is well-formed, and a workaround: moving the namespace declaration to the w:document root produces valid XML after merging.
