Benchling launches Science Foundries: agents and scientists running labs end-to-end
nlarusstone · x · 2026-10-16
Benchling's Head of AI Nicholas Larus-Stone unveiled Science Foundries at Benchtalk Boston — a new way to run scientific processes end-to-end with agents and scientists as a team.
How it works: pick a process or goal (produce proteins, optimize a lead, improve manufacturing), then assign which steps agents run and where scientists approve. Agents execute, monitor, coordinate handoffs, and surface key decisions, all on shared scientific context.
Context: Benchling spent 18 months bringing AI to science; its agents are the fastest-growing capability it has ever released. A pharma case study shows high-throughput antibody design-production-testing: models design sequences, CROs synthesize constructs, lab automation handles production and assays. The pitch: a three-person team can now have the productive capacity of thirty.
