Codex remembers user's Safari extension and uses it to recover 1,651 ChatGPT messages
Unixwzrd · reddit · 2026-10-16
A user's 1,600+ message ChatGPT conversation (designing an APFS backup system) couldn't be handed to Codex — native attachment exposed only six messages.
Then Codex did something unexpected: it remembered LogGPT, a Safari extension the user had written for exporting ChatGPT conversations, opened Safari, and used it to download the entire history — 1,651 messages, 97 artifacts, and structured JSON — verified the files, and built a searchable local source collection for the project.
The author notes Codex didn't magically expand its context window; it recovered source material for on-demand retrieval. Two takeaways: portable AI conversation history matters, and agents increasingly recognize when tools from past work solve new problems. Full write-up linked.
