Can interpretability predict post-takeover behavior? An alignment debate
jd_pressman · x · 2026-10-16
jdpressman discusses interpretability's value: for it to truly help, you'd need to generalize a model's behavior in counterfactual situations well enough to reliably foresee how model n behaves once it crosses the threshold where it could take over.
He himself dislikes this framing, arguing in part that a model's hypothetical takeover behavior isn't actually disconnected from its other behaviors.
