Fade: a terminal coding agent you can keep talking to while it builds
MuzafferMahi · reddit · 2026-10-16
A developer released Fade (v0.5, MIT), a terminal tool tackling the focus-kill of waiting on coding agents:
- Runs two agents at once: you chat with Fade (reads your project, answers, plans) while a sidebar Builder writes code — no waiting for turns
- The Builder must attach a 'proof' (test or command) per change; Fade commits then re-runs the proofs itself and bounces failures back with real error output — a model claiming 'tests pass' doesn't count
- Only questions a test can't decide interrupt you; passing work lands automatically, and every change is a git commit so undo always works
- No modes or hotkeys; works with any model Pi supports, including local ones via llama.cpp, and the two agents can use different models
