Prof. Justin M. Curry will teach AMAT 780 "Topological Deep Learning: From Perceptrons to WL and Beyond" at SUNY Albany in Spring 2027. Starting from Minsky & Papert's 1969 Perceptrons, the course builds to a surprising impossibility theorem — the only thing a perceptron can learn is the Euler Characteristic — then covers modern topological expressivity results including graph and sheaf neural nets and the Weisfeiler-Lehman test, ending with student presentations. Math-oriented, no coding required, though demos are encouraged; prerequisites are passing familiarity with topology and group theory.
