Ben Bajarin shared and praised a Semtech Data Center Analyst Day slide for explaining technical matters "correctly and clearly." It diagrams the four impairments of high-speed links and their fixes: attenuation (gain), bandwidth limitation causing pulse spreading (linear equalization), nonlinearity where larger swings gain less (AGC/pre-compensation), and noise, which cannot be removed once in-band (low-noise design and filtering).
