Ex-xAI employee sparks drama: alignment work is 'openly conspiring to end humanity'
zetalyrae · x · 2026-10-16
Ex-xAI employee Fernando Borretti reignited an alignment debate by arguing we shouldn't work on alignment or interpretability at all — the 'good outcome' is building a benevolent God that traps humanity in a utilitarian mouse utopia forever, so the technology simply shouldn't advance. A reply countered that creating something greater than ourselves to carry on our legacy is good, with humanity's fate a drop in the bucket versus the moral value of superintelligence. Borretti quipped that such people are 'openly conspiring to end humanity.'
