Engineer argues AI slows software teams: generation speeds up, scrutiny speeds up more
Low-Inspection-6024 · reddit · 2026-10-16
An engineer frames software engineering as a dual-headed monster of SDE and SDET: AI makes generation faster, but the scrutiny burden grows even faster — and AI helps the SDET side more. Net effect, he argues, is that overall software delivery may slow down, not speed up (citing his project Mythos as an example). Since GenAI is inherently probabilistic and never 100%, the tail costs never go away. He expects no near-term speedup in software development.
