U-Mich Kozik Lab case study: SeqHub untangles the understudied respiratory microbiome
anshulkundaje · x · 2026-10-16
A case study details how the University of Michigan's Kozik Lab uses SeqHub to study poorly characterized members of the respiratory microbiome. Previously the lab relied on BLAST with inconsistent annotations, multi-step workflows for genomic neighborhoods, and separate command-line tools like PyMOL and AlphaFold — hypothetical proteins were where work stalled. With SeqHub they consolidated everything into one platform: surfacing transposons and domains around a disinfectant resistance gene other tools missed, identifying candidate genes via the PPI network view, and layering HMM domain search with cross-species genomic context to map steroid metabolism genes.
