David Brin: LLMs lack 'wanting,' evolution's key product, in new machine consciousness book
cccalum · x · 2026-10-16
In the new book Perspectives on Machine Consciousness (edited by Calum Chace and Ted Lappas), author David Brin argues that "wanting" is the key product of evolution that no LLM has genuinely developed — his core objection to claims of machine consciousness in current models.
The book is now available on Amazon (paperback $21, Kindle $20) collecting multi-perspective essays on machine consciousness.
