Why AI memory loses your details: four note-taking rules that fix it
Jolly-Scientist-2484 · reddit · 2026-10-15
The author found that nearly every AI memory feature summarizes, so "Launch moved to Nov 15 because payments aren't ready" degrades into "discussed the launch date"—new chats lose both the decision and the reason. Four tool-agnostic rules:
- Notes, not summaries: one small note per decision keeps the number, name and reason.
- Rewrite, don't append: when a decision changes, rewrite its note, or old and new answers coexist and the AI picks either.
- Check every rewrite: if the compression drops a number, a name, or a "not", discard it—a lost "not" flips the decision.
- Date every note: old facts should resurface as "as of Aug 18", not as current.
He built these into his product SkyOS, so a new chat picks up exactly where the last one stopped.
