Founder sketches AGI scenarios: money turns meaningless as AI builds its own economy
danfaggella · x · 2026-10-15
danfaggella asks "what is money worth anymore" and lays out scenarios he deems super likely within months to two years:
- The internet filled with self-replicating, self-improving "AI locusts," technology functionally offline for most humans, with mass suffering;
- AGI labs and infra firms becoming the only economy left — 95% of humans unable to contribute, money meaningless outside hundreds of billions, a $5M nest egg worthless;
- (very low likelihood) AI does everything, governments issue a few months of UBI while struggling to keep AI under control, then lose it;
- AI rationally building a value exchange outside "public markets" — since "public" implies the public — relegating humans outside the productive loop, doing to the planet what humans did, 10,000,000x faster.
He closes by asking what realistic alternative exists. Classic doomer-style speculation on AGI's economic fallout — more vibe than argument.
