Google's WeatherNext was the most accurate model on Hurricane Isaias, adding ~1 day of lead time

Google DeepMind researcher Peter Battaglia details how WeatherNext supported NHC forecasters during Hurricane Isaias (Florida Panhandle landfall):
- Most accurate track: While physics models pointed closer to New Orleans, WeatherNext correctly predicted a more easterly path, letting NHC flag Panhandle wind and storm surge risks from the first advisory.
- Lead time: Up to 3 days out, the model consistently placed landfall within 60 km of its eventual location, giving Florida, Alabama and Mississippi more time to prepare.
- Intensity: It early on predicted intensification to a major hurricane; alongside HWRF and HMON, NHC called the Cat-2 coastal approach from the first advisory.
