14 of 18 rows identical to the second decimal: BMC paper caught copying deleted PNAS dataset
paulnovosad · x · 2026-10-15
A replication investigation found that 14 of 18 rows in a BMC paper's Table 2 have means and standard deviations IDENTICAL to the second decimal digit with one 30-player team in a PNAS dataset recovered from deleted files in public Git history — covering goals, assists, passes, and cognitive tests. The two papers studied different populations (male vs. female soccer players), making identical numbers a smoking gun for fabrication.
