Box CEO Aaron Levie: background agents will drive 100x-1000x more token consumption
inductionheads · x · 2026-10-15
Box CEO Aaron Levie argues that moving from chatting with agents to spinning up background agents that do useful work will drive token consumption 100x-1000x beyond today's levels.
His reasoning: most knowledge work is rate-limited by information-processing steps — moving data between systems, reviewing documents, scanning code for security issues, processing logs, researching prospects. The chatbot era used AI to speed up individual tasks while humans stayed in the loop; autonomous background agents will multiply demand for those steps exponentially.
