15 alternatives to Jev: open decision models you can self-host
femke_plantinga · x · 2026-10-15
A month after TypeSafe AI launched Jev — a "System One" model that only picks from allowed options with a confidence score (US-hosted, no EU residency) — femkeplantinga surveys 15 alternatives, highlighting six:
- Clef/Clef-flash (Cloudflare): Apache-2.0 open weights, text + image, runs on Workers AI
- d1 (Liquid AI): hosted, returns the same Noul/Choice/Score result types as Jev
- Tev1-4B-experimental (Together AI): Qwen3.5-4B fine-tune picking from 2–24 options, with training guide
- GLiNER2.5-Decide (Fastino): 340M encoder that also extracts spans/relations, runs on CPU
- Strands Decider 2B: open weights, data and scripts for local agent gates
- Decisions API (OpenAI): public beta since Oct 6, image input, pay only for input tokens, EU processing available
Plus builds from Perplexity, Bespoke Labs, Jared Palmer and others. Caveat: a snapshot, not a ranking — no side-by-side benchmarks exist yet.
