Sentry founder denies removing telemetry options 'for enterprise dollars': everything is opt-in
zeeg · x · 2026-10-15
After a user accused Sentry of removing the ability to disable telemetry 'for enterprise dollars', founder David Cramer (zeeg) publicly pushed back: the behaviors in question were always opt-in, and what was removed were only no-op options that did nothing.
His explanation: if you don't want logs sent, simply don't call the Sentry logging functions — same for metrics. Anything beyond opt-in behavior is a bug he invites users to file tickets for, and he calls the 'removed for revenue' claim absolutely untrue.
