Mandelbrot in pure Lean: Claude renders figures with Hershey fonts, no Python
geoffreyirving · x · 2026-10-15
Geoffrey Irving shares Mandelbrot set computations done entirely in the Lean proof assistant: asked to produce figures without Python, Claude used the public-domain Hershey stroke font for text rendering.
The figures show the eight biggest primitive tuned copies of M, phase portraits of the q=2 horn map, and a pixel-by-pixel comparison of plain double precision vs certified disk arithmetic — roughly 95% of pixels certify, with failures concentrated at fractal edges where chaos defeats certification.
